Reflections on Thailand 2026

While having lunch yesterday at Blue Diamond restaurant, one of our favorites in the Old City of Chiang Mai, we realized it’s going on 10 years since our first visit to Thailand in 2016. Back then we thought we might pursue retirement visas and create a home base here. But we never settled down, opting instead to spend much of those ten years living out of our suitcases and just traveling. We never get tired of that!
But we always come back to Thailand and this year it’s our fifth visit! We love so many things about Thailand—the friendly people, the beautiful culture and land, the food, the weather, the value (still!). Of course we want to come back!
We spent the 2025-26 holidays at the Dragonfly Naturist Resort in Pattaya. It was our third visit there and the second year in a row as our holiday hideout, riding out the year-end increase in tourists and prices.
Below is a new hotel for us in Chiang Mai. We keep trying to find the sweetest spot in town and this might be it.
We’ll complete our nearly two months in Thailand with a visit to Bangkok, staying again at Trinity Silom Hotel and Barefeet Naturist Resort near DMK airport.
