Fairmont Hotel — Amman

Amman is a charming, gleaming city with a warm, soft sun. Our airport transfer to the Fairmont Hotel left an indelible memory of a not-too-big metropolis capital city in this storied Kingdom. The Fairmont is without a doubt one of the most grand, beautiful hotels we’ve stayed in anywhere. Can we move in!? The pictures speak for themselves. It’s about six years old, is exquisitely designed and a total pleasure. We were on a package tour but the rack rate for our room was $331 /night. Pricey, right? But worth it! Splurge!

Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea

It was a pity because we only stayed at this nice 5-star hotel on the Dead Sea for less than 10 hours. It was the end of the tour and our flight onward to Madrid required us to leave for the airport about 1 am. And we got here in the late afternoon. We don’t typically love big cavernous hotel properties like this (with a weird lobby) but at least Rich got to experience the mud treatment in the Dead Sea. Paul was literally too tired to drag his butt to the water’s edge and took a needed power nap before our farewell dinner buffet with Dr. Schock and Katie and the gang fro our small tour group. We tried and tried to find an alternative flight and should have just extended one more day for departing. Oh well.
