Singapore — Thailand Fall 2022

Mid-October 2022 we begin an anticipated two-year journey away from our home in Portland, Oregon USA. While eventually we’ll be in Thailand for about two months, the first few nights of our journey we will nurse our jet lag in Singapore. We’ve done this jet-lag stop before and will get a chance to see some more city sights too. We’re staying in Hotel Boss (Superior Double $153 /night) just nine transit stops on the MRT from the airport and 20 minutes walk to the Little India neighborhood. Yeah for little India, big India, any India! We settled on a United Airlines coach flight from Portland, OR through San Francisco to Singapore for US$510 one-way, including seats and baggage fees per person.

Our ultimate destination for the first month is Chiang Mai, Thailand. We’ll fly non-stop from Singapore on Scoot Airlines (Singapore Airlines-owned lower cost airline) for US$205 including seats and baggage fees per person. We’ve got three different hotel reservations for our month-long stay as follows:

  • Villa Sirilanna Hotel - 10 nights, luxury king with balcony, $56/night including tax and breakfast.

  • Hotel De Sripoom - 10 nights, executive suite, $56/night including tax and breakfast.

  • Viangluang Resort - 9 nights, executive double, $87/night including tax and breakfast.

We’ll be entering Thailand on a 30-day visa and will need to leave the country following our time in Chiang Mai. But we will return after about a week in Malaysia.

Back in Thailand for an additional 23 days we’ll stay first in sleepy Rawai on the southeast side of the island for a return stay to Peace Blue for 11 nights (superior room, US$114/night). We know this neighborhood and love the quiet conveniences and restaurant choices.

From there we fly to Bangkok’s main airport and shuttle to Pattaya and stay at Baan Souy Resort for a week (Studio, US$79 /night). As we’ve done before, we’ll shuttle from there to downtown Bangkok for our last four nights and a return visit to Trinity Silom Hotel (Premier room, US$32 /night).

Then a week before Christmas we fly to San Antonio to spend the holiday with family (Delta Airlines coach, $1,002 per person including baggage and seats).

Following Christmas we take an easy two-hour flight to Guanajuato, Mexico. We’ll spend three winter months in Mexico in various locations including San Miguel de Allende, Mexico City, Tehuacan, Oaxaca City and finally Playa Zipolite for an extended winter beach getaway.
