It's a Shinto celebration called Kanamara Matsuri...The Penis Festival! And yes, this happens annually in an otherwise sexually conservative Japan! Traditionally, sex workers would come to this festival for protection from sexually transmitted diseases. Now the celebration is attended by thousands of beautiful Japanese and hundreds of tourists with a playful parade on Sunday and vendors selling penis shaped foods and souvenirs!
