Novotel Hyderabad Airport

Paul’s quite unfortunate bout with dengue fever prompted changes to the travel itinerary at the very end of the Heart tour. Instead of spending more than a week exploring Hyderabad, Warangal and Vijayawada, in the end, we canceled all that and stayed just one night at the Hyderabad airport to catch a morning flight to Thailand. So our accommodation just needed to be convenient. We chose the Novotel Hyderabad Airport (RS7,750, US$105/night including airport transfers). It’s a standard, top-notch business-class airport hotel. Predicable efficiency. Fine for one to three nights with room service and multiple restaurant options. We had a snafu with the airport shuttle pick-up service that resulted in our being upgraded to the executive floor, initially a seemingly meaningless perk.

But we soon learned there was an Indian dignitary on our floor, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. We met him, briefly, and have the video of that delightful encounter with he and his entourage (posted below).

So at the conclusion of our more than three month-long visit we said farewell to incredible India by meeting Gurudev Ravi Shankar on the executive floor at the Hyderabad airport business hotel. Totally improbable. That’s India!
